Tetra Pak has recently launched the Tetra Fino Aseptic 100 Ultra MiM, a new package that offers an opportunity for manufacturers to produce liquid dairy and juice drinks using their existing production processes and market them as ice cream and frozen products.

The new product will appear in Asia from 2018. Along with the Tetra Brik Aseptic, the Tetra Fino Aseptic will be produced at the Tetra Pak Binh Duong factory, which is now under construction and expected to be operational by 2019 to serve Vietnam and neighboring markets.

Vietnam’s ice cream and frozen desserts markets has seen retail sales growth of 7 per cent and value growth rate of 15 per cent this year, reaching 26,600 tons and nearly $134 million, respectively, according to the latest Passport Euromonitor 2017 report. The sector is growing rapidly due to the increasing incomes of local people, better living standards, and the development of retail distribution networks. The global ice cream market is estimated to be worth around $72 billion.

The new Tetra Pak packaging allows dairy and juice drinks to be produced and distributed in small carton pouches at room temperature and subsequently turned into frozen products in shops or in a customer’s home. This means producers can tap into the $72-billion global ice cream market without the need for additional investment in production equipment and chilled distribution systems, according to the Passport Euromonitor 2017 report.

Tetra Pak is now the major supplier of high technology and food packaging to most domestic milk producers, such as Vinamilk, TH True Milk, Vinasoy, Nestle, and Moc Chau, etc.

Want Want, a leading food company in China, is the first to trial the product.

“We announced these new products to our distributors in early September,” said Mr. Wang Jin Ping, General Manager of Ice Product Business Unit at the Want Want Group. “The response has been extremely positive because these products meet the needs of both parents and children. Parents can be reassured of the nutritional value of the product because it is their trusted Want Want flavored milk without any preservatives, while children will be happy to enjoy these frozen treats because they are fun and tasty.”

The Tetra Fino Aseptic 100 Ultra MiM package can be produced on the A1 Tetra Pak filling machine platform. With a pre-applied opening using Micro Injection Moulding technology, the package can be opened entirely by pulling the tab, making it easy for children and others to enjoy the frozen product.

The new package will be available from 2018 in the Greater Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

At the same time, drawing on the company’s 60 years of experience in juice processing and its global expertise, Tetra Pak has released its new version of the Orange Book. It is the only book available that covers the entire orange juice production chain, from quality control of the fruit to regional consumer insights.
