Automobile company accounted for a huge portion of total industry sales in March.
Thaco sold 5,973 automobiles in March, marking a growth of 101 per cent from February.
With the high number of sales, Thaco accounted for 39.3 per cent of sales from members of the Vietnamese Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA).
Within 3,196 commercial vehicles sold, the diesel engine light truck Thaco Frontier dominated the market with 1,366 vehicles shifted. Other trucks such as the Thaco Towner and Thaco Ollin also saw significant growth.
It also sold 68 buses, with sleeper vehicles selling the highest. In the first three months of 2015, commercial vehicles sold by Thaco reached 6,341 units, an 85 per cent increase compared to the same period last year (3,435 units).
From 2,777 passenger cars, Kia sold 1,310, Mazda moved 1,441 units and Peugeot only offloaded 26. Compared to the previous month, Kia continued to have stable sales, increasing by 29 per cent while Mazda had a significant growth of 59 per cent.
In the first three months of 2015, the sales of passenger cars reached 8,344 units, a 117 per cent increase from the last quarter (3,846 units). Kia and Mazda ranked second and third respectively in VAMA sales.
Kia had 4,115 sales, marking an increase of 90 per cent on the same period in 2014 (2,174 units). The strong growth is mainly in imported vehicles such as the Kia Rio, Optimo and Sedona. In Q1, Kia Morning remained its best-selling car with 1,450 units, followed by the KiaK3, the Rio and the New Sorento.
Mazda also showed remarkable growth with 4,122 vehicles moved, an increase of 148 per cent. The Mazda 3 accounted for 1,255 units, the CX-5 for 1,056, and the Mazda 6 overtook the Camry with 587 units.
As for Peugeot, with the impressive launch of Peugeot 208, 508 3008 and RCZ in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, it is increasing in popularity with total sales of 107 units in Q1 2015, of which the Peugeot 3008, 208 and 208 are the products preferred by customers.
With positive signs from the market such as economic stability and steady growth, Thaco is confident of setting a target of 20,000 units sold in the upcoming quarter 2015, including 11,000 commercial vehicles and 9,000 passenger cars.
