A highly successful model in Singapore has been introduced to the Vietnamese market.
UberX, which provides low cost four seater cars, has been accredited by the Vietnamese government according to Uber's Director in Vietnam, Mr Dang Viet Dung.
"All cars used by UberX belong to partners which have legal licenses issued by the Vietnamese government," the director said.
He said the target of UberX in Vietnam was to encourage all people to use taxis at a reduced cost.
In fact, booking UberX is about 40 per cent cheaper than the current cheapest taxi options. In Hanoi, the fare per kilometer of UberX is around $0.23, whereas it is about $0.59 and $0.74 for low-cost and premium taxis respectively as of April 7, as shown by Uber's analysis.
It also showed that in Ho Chi Minh City, UberX was 25 per cent cheaper than the cheapest taxi options. In the city, the fare per kilometer of UberX is about $0.39. Meanwhile, the figures are about $0.69 and $0.78 for low-cost and premium taxis.
Today, UberX cars are to be introduced in Vietnam and are expected to be welcomed by the younger generation in particular. In New York and Singapore, UberX cars are considered the favourite run by the company, said Uber's spokeswoman. In Vietnam, UberX vehicles range from Hyundai i10 to Toyota Vios.
