Service available in Da Nang, with the chance of a free flight expected to encourage downloads.
Vietnamese Uber users in Da Nang city can now also access UberCHOPPER, a helicopter booking app, and possibly have an introductory 15-minute flight around the city to take in all its sights on August 15 between 10am and 4.30pm.
Those who download the new app and are chosen by Uber will be taken in a Mercedes-Benz to the Fusion Maia Resort, where the will enjoy a small tea party before the flight.
Uber's Head of Asia Pacific Expansion, Mr. Douglas Ma, said it was pleased to bring UberCHOPPER to Da Nang. “This is a city that is driven by technology," he added. "We are confident our vision of changing the way people connect with their cities will showcase the potential of a reliable transportation option.” The company sees demand for helicopter transport in and around the city given the level of development being experienced in the central region.
He is also in discussions on how to provide safe and reliable transport in the city, by taxi and, when needed, by helicopter. “We are looking towards the future where the city’s master plan expects the population to reach 2 million by 2020, so we hope to start dialogue about how we can provide a reliable transport system". He also expects to cooperate with authorities on job creation and improving the city’s transport network.
UberCHOPPER was first introduced in 2013, ferrying Uber users from New York City to the Hamptons. The service is now available in many other cities around the world, such as Bangkok, Bangalore, Cape Town, Melbourne, Rio De Janeiro, and Shanghai.
