Decision to punish Viettel released by Agency of Broadcasting and Electronic Information.
The Agency of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) has fined Viettel $8,100 for matters relating to its provision of pay TV services.
The fine was issued after the ABEI conducted an inspection of Viettel’s operations in providing pay TV under Decision No. 41/QD-XPVPHC on administrative punishment in the field of pay TV, which found the telecoms giant guilty of four administrative violations.
It was fined $400 for providing similar cable television services in eight cities and provinces (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and Dak Lak), as this is not compliant with existing regulations.
It was also fined more than $700 for broadcasting movies outside of those permitted by its license.
Under Item 6, Article 16 of Decree No. 159/2013/ND-CP issued by the government on November 12, 2013, providing mobile pay TV services (MobiTV) without a license is subject to a penalty of $7,000.
