The Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) and the north-central Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee have recently signed an agreement over the process of construction for the Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Project.

With investment of $1.8 billion the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 1,200 MW once completed.

Vinacomin will prepare detailed construction planning at a scale of 1/500 before August 15 for submission to the provincial government. It is also expected to kick off backfilling the project site before June 30, 2016 and put the plant into operation in 2020.

Mr. Le Minh Chuan, Chairman of Vinacomin's Board of Management, has affirmed their determination in developing the plant and regards it as a key project not only for Nghe An but also for Vinacomin.

The Nghe An provincial government also committed to closely cooperating with and supporting Vinacomin in building the plant so it proceeds on schedule.

The Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Project is one of two projects in the Quynh Lap Power Center in Quynh Luu district. At the end of April 2009 the Prime Minister issued Document No. 2798/VPCP-KTN permitting Vinacomin to become the plant’s developer.
