Subscribers able to use service in two districts of HCMC and on Phu Quoc Island.
Vinaphone subscribers can now begin accessing 4G services in Districts 1 and 3 in Ho Chi Minh City and on Phu Quoc Island.
The provider is the second in the country to offer 4G services over a large area, following Viettel. It has already set up 50 network stations on Phu Quoc and 100 in Districts 1 and 3 in Ho Chi Minh City. With iPhones, only models locked by Vinaphone can access the new service.
Ho Chi Minh City has two locations where people can test 4G: 80 Nguyen Du in District 1 and 121 Pasteur in District 3.
On Phu Quoc are four locations: 333 Nguyen Trung Truc, 2 Tran Hung Dao, Safari Vinpearl, and Saigon Hotel Phu Quoc.
Similar to Viettel, Vinaphone is implementing 4G LTE Advance, which provides a maximum download speed of 300 Mbps. In tests involving numerous videos with FullHD resolution or 2K resolution, the 4G service in Ho Chi Minh City had a high download speed with almost no delay. This was at the Vinaphone testing point, however, and there were only eight devices in the test.
“There is a big difference compared to 3G,” said one customer, Mr. Vu Duy Long. “I was using it to watch 4K resolution videos on YouTube and it was fine.” If it keeps up and the fee is affordable, he said, there is no reason for him to continue using 3G.
A representative from Vinaphone said the fee for using 4G will not be higher than for 3G and will be provided in the form of a package rather than capacity.
