Swiss group opens plant in Dong Nai to process Vietnam's largest export commodity.
Volcafe Vietnam, under ED&F Man Holdings, a leading global group from Switzerland in agricultural commodities and trading specifically in sugar, molasses and coffee, has put into operation a coffee processing plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year at the An Phuoc Industrial Park at Long Thanh district in southern Dong Nai province.
The plant has investment capital of $80 million and an area of four hectares. Its production will be exported to major markets around the world.
Vietnam’s coffee market has recently seen a race among large coffee brands. The Nestle Group opened a coffee bean treatment plant with investment capital of $80 million at the Amata Industrial Park in Dong Nai’s Bien Hoa city, while local players Vinacafe and Trung Nguyen have both strengthened their positions in the country.
Vietnam is second largest coffee exporter in the world, after Brazil. According to figures from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), it exported 1.73 million tons last year with an export value of $3.62 billion. Vietnam’s coffee beans can now be found in 80 countries worldwide.
