App's growing number of users good news for domestic OTT app providers.
The VNG Corporation announced today that its Over-the-Top (OTT) Zalo app, providing free messages and calls via the internet, has reached 30 million users with 400 million messages being exchanged every day. User numbers have grown by 10 million since November 2014.
Zalo has improved its products and developed the technical infrastructure needed to maintain its advantage. The app also opens up an opportunity for cooperation with other parties. Its priorities, however, are the integration of practical services for daily life, such as healthcare, education, information, food, and shopping.
“We hope that Zalo will not only be a communication tool but also be able to serve many different needs in life,” a representative of Zalo said.
Launched at the end of 2012, Zalo has won over users due to its capacity for fast and stable communications. The app is one of the leading apps on iOS, Android, Nokia and Windows phones. It has also launched PC and web versions to meet the communications demand of users anytime, anywhere.
A number of organizations have used Zalo as a tool to advertise and promote their economic activities and social development, such as the Office of the Government and VTV. Many brands such as McDonald’s, Coca Cola and Red Bull have chosen Zalo as a channel to keep in touch with customers.
In 2014 the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), the world’s largest organization in the field of mobile marketing, named Zalo as Publisher of the Year. MMA said that Zalo has made significant efforts to lead media and advertising development on mobiles and achieved the greatest success.
Founded in September 2004, the VNG Corporation is a leading Vietnamese technology company specializing in digital content and online entertainment, social networking, and e-commerce. Besides Zalo it also owns the entertainment portal Zing, which has the most viewers and subscribers in the country.
