New head looks to build on past successes.
Ms Luong Thi Cam Tu has been appointed as General Director of NamABank as of April 4.
She becomes the youngest bank CEO in Vietnam at the age of 35. She has 14 years of experience in the industry and has previously held various senior positions at Sacombank, MHB and NamABank.
Ms. Tu graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration with Distinction in 2002 and holds a master's degree from Griggs University in the United States.
She said that seniority is not the deciding factor of success in banking and finance, but a solid foundation of knowledge, intuition and logical thinking. Moreover, how to approach and understand what the customer needs and being able to then meet those needs is of extreme importance.
Ms. Tu has been with NamABank as it has achieved some impressive results. Total assets have reached VND37.29 trillion ($1.72 billion), while consolidated pre-tax profit reached VND242 billion ($11.20 million), an increase of 32 per cent compared to 2013 and 15 per cent higher than planned. Non-performing loans are under control at levels lower than those set by the central bank (1.4 per cent). In addition, the bank has opened new branches in many cities such as Da Nang, Binh Thuan, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Vung Tau, Lam Dong and Ben Tre.
