Ms. Le Thi Van Anh, Director of Flamingo Dai Lai JSC, led the resort through the gloomy days of Vietnam's real estate market and can now enjoy the sunshine.

It takes a lot of dedication and persistence to be successful in the business world. This can be especially true for women, who often have to overcome certain biases or barriers that men never have to face. Ms. Le Thi Van Anh, Director of Flamingo Dai Lai JSC, has been dedicated and led her team of 500 staff to overcome the gloomy days of Vietnam’s real estate market, with sales at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort doubling in 2014 compared to 2013.

Fate & fortune

In early December Flamingo Dai Lai JSC launched its new Hoang Anh villas after successfully launching Bac Thanh, Do Quyen, Hoang Anh and Hoang Tuoc villas. From just VND1.8 billion ($85,000), customers can now own an elegant bungalow and receive many other privileges. Starting from VND3 billion are villas located inside forests, hills, or overlooking the lake, surrounded by the marvelous natural surroundings of the resort. In the first half of 2014 villa sales reached 80 per cent of the annual plan and increased 200 per cent against the first half of 2013.

The figures bring happiness and pride to Ms Van Anh after 15 years at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort. “The first time I came to Flamingo Dai Lai Resort I was really impressed with the project, though at that time it was only primitive wilderness,” she said. “Now, the resort has seen many changes that give guests a different impression of the most famous resort in the north.” 
With an area of 1.23 million hectares, Flamingo Dai Lai Resort is divided into several stages of development. So far Flamingo has completed all service categories, including a luxurious restaurant, a conference center in unique architecture that has won 13 world architecture awards, a golf course, four peninsulas, two central lakes, ten forests, five hills, 100 million square meters of mountains and pine forests, the 5-million square meter Dai Lai Lake, and more than 100 villas near the lake. Ms. Van Anh and her team have been working every day to develop Flamingo Dai Lai to become a tourist destination and attract more visitors.

Looking back on Flamingo’s development, Ms. Van Anh has always strived to create a trustworthy brand with solid investments, hard work, and quick progress, to build trust and credibility among customers. Though she was not educated to become a hotelier, it was her fate and fortune to work in hospitality, having been engaged with Flamingo Dai Lai for the last 15 years. “I graduated in accounting at the Accounting and Finance University in Hanoi and worked for a construction company for nine years,” she said. “After that I became the chief accountant at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort.” She was then appointed Director.

Applying her knowledge of accounting to her current work, Ms. Van Anh has the sharp mind and eye of a financial expert in planning a suitable business strategy for Flamingo Dai Lai Resort and help its development. She and her team have continuously built up its brand among all types of customers and this is one of the main reasons why the Flamingo villas have been accepted in the market. “The confidence of customers is very important and is a decisive factor in revenue and the prestige of a real estate investor,” she said. “The project is guaranteed by the investor’s reputation, strong financial capacity, and commitment to the construction schedule. I believe that absolute trust from customer comes from striving towards the goal of bringing true value to life. This means that investors comply with all commitments and always put the interests of customers first, and this is the standard that ensures Flamingo is an ideal place for all to live in and relax.” 

Another secret behind her success is her delicateness. “Working in hospitality, the female characteristics of flexibility and softness help me run Flamingo,” she believes. “Sometimes, however, fulfilling the role of a wife and mother requires me to attempt to be successful in both work and family.”

Today, transport from the center of Hanoi to Flamingo has never been easier, with a modern highway network, and it takes just 15 minutes to reach Flamingo Dai Lai Resort from Noi Bai International Airport. The exclusive landscape and high-end services are certainly added values. Villa owners will benefit from the beautiful natural landscapes, and all owners can enjoy privileges such as free access to the Flamingo Golf Club, an outdoor heated pool, and a spa. Aside from the natural setting and architecture, these are considered advantages for the resort.

It is clear that the resort segment has maintained top position in the local market, with high prices and built according to actual values and customer needs. When investing in resort real estate it is essential for strategic investors to have a vision for urban planning and sustainable development. Compared to last year’s figures, Ms. Van Anh sees that the recovery and customer needs have increased significantly. “Only projects that are properly invested, with a strong financial base, can win customer trust,” she said.

Northern provinces lack the advantage of being near the sea and coastline and don’t have the weather found in central and southern provinces, yet Ms. Van Anh believes in the potential of resort developments. “With valuable historical relics, unique landscapes and the convenient public transport, more and more investors are interested in building resorts to attract customers,” she said. “In recent years what has satisfied me the most is customer recognition of the product available at Flamingo Dai Lai Resort. I look forward to 2015, when Flamingo Dai Lai Resort will continue to develop more sustainably and have more outstanding success, and I hope that with our staff’s efforts we will continue to be recognized by our customers.”
