Vivu picks up bus company

Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Founder of the car sharing app Vivu, has acquired Vietnamese bus company Phuong Trang and renamed it VATO, with a launch originally planned for May. With Grab having taken over Uber’s Southeast Asian operations recently, VATO decided to launch this month instead of next.

Amata Group licensed to build Quang Ninh IP

The Amata Group’s dream of developing the VND3.5 trillion ($153.56 million) Song Khoai Industrial Park in the northern province of Quang Ninh came closer to reality after the Thai investor received an investment certificate. The Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee granted the certificate on March 30 for the Amata Group to build the industrial park in Quang Yen town. Covering an area of 714 ha, construction is divided into five phases with total investment capital of VND3.5 trillion ($153.56 million). The first phase will welcome its first investors by the end of 2019.

Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line to open in December

The Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line will come into operation in December, despite rumors about a 2021 starting date. Construction is 95 per cent completed and 80 per cent of necessary equipment has been imported and is ready to be installed. The project will see trial operations in September before commercial operations begin three months later. Construction began in October 2011, with investment initially estimated at $552 million, $419 million of which was borrowed from China.

Construction underway of Ninh Thuan solar plant

Construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 50 MW kicked off in Phuoc Dinh commune in Thuan Nam district, south-central Ninh Thuan province, on March 31. With total investment capital of VND1.15 trillion ($50.5 million), the project is being built on 75 ha in Bau Ngu Reservoir, under the build-own-operate (BOO) form.

EC to investigate steel imports

The European Commission (EC) has decided to initiate a safeguard investigation concerning the import of 26 steel products, including those from Vietnam, to member countries. Investigated product categories include alloy hot rolled sheets and strips, organic coated steel, stainless cold rolled sheets and strips, and metallic coated sheets.

Regular schedule for Da Nang - Hokkaido flights

The central city of Da Nang and Japan’s Hokkaido Prefecture plan to upgrade existing charter flight services to a regular air route to boost investment, tourism and trade, according to a Japanese official. Member of Hokkaido Prefectural Council, Chiba Hidemori, called for the direct flights at a recent meeting with Da Nang leaders.

Long An fertilizer plant opens

The Binh Dien II Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (BFC), Vietnam’s leading NPK maker, opened its fertilizer plant in Can Giuoc district in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province on March 31. Covering an area of over 3 ha at the Long Hau Industrial Park, the plant is designed to manufacture 100,000 tons of products each year. Investment will be around VND320 billion ($14 million) in the first phase, and the factory will be equipped with modern production lines and environmentally-friendly technologies.
