Project aimed at boosting tourism in northern city.
The Vu Yen Island Ecotourism Urban Area project, with total investment capital of $1 billion from Vingroup, is expected to begin construction in northern Hai Phong city this year.
Vu Yen Island will be designed as an ecological urban area that will include ecological villas, a 36-hole golf course, amusement parks, and an ecological park, on an area of 872 hectares.
Addressing a meeting between Hai Phong leaders and representatives from Vingroup, Mr. Le Van Thanh, Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, said that building an ecological urban area is in line with the aim of developing Hai Phong’s tourism sector. “It not only meets the demands of local people but will also contribute to attracting people from surrounding areas,” he said. “Construction of an ecological urban area is a feature of a civilized and modern city.”
Although some information sources said the project will begin construction in May, a representative from Vingroup told VET that it may commence later than this because some construction procedures have not been completed. But the representative confirmed that the project will certainly begin sooner rather than later.
Vu Yen Island, located between Hai An and Thuy Nguyen district, is a prime location that plays an important role in the development of tourism in the city. The ecological urban area is expected to be completed in 2019.
