Construction of $2.2 billion Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Plant gets underway.
The Nghe An Provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industry Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) held a breaking ground ceremony on October 1 for the Quynh Lap 1 Thermal Power Plant Project, which is on an area of approximately 150ha and has total investment of about $2.2 billion.
The plant includes two lines with a designed capacity of 2x600MW. Each includes one boiler, one steam turbine, and one booster transformer. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2020 and provide about 6.6 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid.
“The project will significantly increase the proportion of TKV power in the national grid,” General Director of Vinacomin, Mr. Dang Thanh Hai, told the breaking ground ceremony. “Once completed the plant will ensure the supply of energy and economic development in the north-central region.”
Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, said the project will contribute significantly to the national electricity grid, create jobs, and contribute to socio-economic growth in the province.
The project is just one being implemented under Decision No. 171/QD-TTg dated November 29, 2012 on the design and pilot testing of domestic equipment for thermal power plants in the 2012-2025 period. The successful implementation of the project will contribute to creating the conditions for businesses to produce equipment for thermal power plants and promote the development of Vietnam’s machinery industry.
