Hoan Cau Group to redevelop old Palace 1 into King Palace and add hotel and resort complex.
The Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee has granted an investment certificate for the King Palace project, in which the Hoan Cau Group will upgrade the existing Palace 1 in Da Lat, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
With total investment of VND700 billion ($32.6 million) and a licensing term of 50 years, the project will renovate and restore existing structures and build a new hotel and resort complex with 150-200 rooms, 27 villas, and a conference center with a capacity of 500-800 seats. The project will cover on a total area of 182,000 sq m.
In November last year the Hoan Cau Group gained approval from the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee to upgrade the main building and landscapes around the Palace.
Located on a hill some 4 km from the center of Da Lat, Palace 1 is a unique structure with an ancient, majestic look full of elegance and romance, which was built by a wealthy French official as a holiday retreat sometime prior to 1940.
After Vietnam’s liberation in 1975 the Palace was used as a guest house and then assigned to tourism operators, but it was inefficiently run. It fell into disrepair over the last ten years, which was considered a waste of an intriguing site of beautiful old architecture.
