Project to give Ha Long city beach a much-needed facelift.
The Sun Group has just completed the first stage of 300 meters of beach renovations at Bai Chay Beach in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province. The stretch of beach was re-opened for the recent Reunification Day and May Day public holiday.
According to a representative of the Sun Group, the renovations were implemented under the Quang Ninh People’s Committee efforts to bring private investment into tourist infrastructure. The group will renovate a total of 900 of the 2000-meter long beach in the Bai Chay area by treating domestic wastewater, replacing all the sand, and planting trees as well as cabanas to create a picturesque bay front.
Following the three months of renovations it attracted more than 20,000 visitors over the public holiday.
While declining to reveal the cost of the renovations the representative said that the project is good for the local community and its surroundings. “It helps tourists enjoy a clean beach in an attractive tourist area,” she said.
Sun Group expects to complete the full renovation of 900 meters of the beach by June.
Over the years the Bai Chay area and the beach have become polluted due to the development of industrial mining and urban expansion. It has some 5,000 hotel rooms with 10,000 cubic meters of waste water being discharged every day, of which only 35 per cent is sent to a treatment plant.
