AkzoNobel, a global paints and coatings company and the manufacturer of the Dulux and Maxilite brands, has contributed more than 3,500 volunteer hours of employees to repair and repaint schools in Vietnam to celebrate the new school year of 2018-2019.

Aiming at recoating 100 schools around the country, the activity is a part of the “AkzoNobel accompanies you to school” project that has been implemented since 2017. On this occasion, AkzoNobel also announced its ninth year of scholarships for excellent students from architecture universities in Vietnam.

After two years of implementing “AkzoNobel accompanies you to school”, it has redecorated 30 schools with more than 60,000 liters of innovative exterior and interior paints in the Dulux and Maxilite portfolio. The project has contributed to creating colorful and fresh learning spaces for students at disadvantaged schools to celebrate the new school year.

Selected schools in the project are those in disadvantaged areas with visible degradation, lack of funds for classroom renovation, or other improvement needs. The project will provide these schools with coating products to redecorate learning spaces, encouraging students to study and grow.

In addition, hundreds of employees from AkzoNobel Vietnam around the country have spent working days participating directly in school painting activities over the last two years.

“Our school is in a remote area with severe degradation but we lack the funds to renovate,” said Ms. Vu Thi Hoai, Principal of the An Duc Elementary School in northern Thai Binh province. “We greatly appreciate AkzoNobel Vietnam’s contribution to our school, which helps students learn in a more spacious and inspiring space in the new school year of 2018-2019.”

AkzoNobel’s contribution to Vietnam’s education development is demonstrated not only through facilities renovation or school repainting but also in its aim of nurturing young talent. Since 2009, scholarships have been presented annually to excellent students at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture.

In the new school year starting in September, AkzoNobel will continue to accompany Vietnam’s architecture students with eleven scholarships, including ten for excellent students and one for an outstanding project. From 2018 onwards, talented students at the Hanoi University of Architecture and the Da Nang University of Architecture will also benefit from scholarships.

“Supporting education and nurturing the growth of the next generation are among our key focuses in contributing to the local communities where AkzoNobel is doing businesses,” said Ms. Pamela Phua, General Director of AkzoNobel Vietnam Decorative Paint Company. “We hope that our tireless contributions to Vietnam’s education sector will help motivate spirit and assist Vietnamese young students in achieving greater academic performance.”
