ANZ and the Saigon Children’s Charity CIO (saigonchildren) has completed “Project 3E” (Educate, Enrich and Employ) with the opening of the Thuan Hoa 2 Primary School and Thuan Hoa Kindergarten in Long My district in the Mekong Delta’s Hau Giang province.

“Four years ago we partnered with saigonchildren to provide better education opportunities for children growing up in Vietnam,” said ANZ’s Chief Operating Officer, Institutional, Sreeram Iyer. “Today we are incredibly proud to see this project come to fruition, and the difference it’s making to the community is testament to the passion our employees have shown in achieving its objectives.”

“In addition to ANZ’s financial support, our staff in Vietnam and from across our global network have spent thousands of hours volunteering their own time to assist with the planning and construction of the schools, as well as helping to deliver our financial literacy program, Money Minded, to local teachers and parents.”

Project 3E has now built a total of ten schools, benefiting around 4,000 children in Long My. In addition to new classrooms accommodating hundreds of students, the project has upgraded IT equipment and facilities benefiting 1,900 local students and awarded financial scholarships to 900 deserving students with outstanding study results.

“The tremendous support and commitment from ANZ has delivered impressive results from this project,” saigonchildren Executive Director, Damien Roberts, added. “To see 4,000 children and their families now having a brighter start to life and better hopes for their future is an incredible achievement and one that will create a legacy for future generations.”

ANZ was one of the first foreign banks to open in Vietnam and has been operating in the country for 25 years. In addition to Project 3E, the bank’s flagship financial literacy program, Money Minded, has benefitted more than 4,000 people in the country since its launch in 2012.

saigonchildren is an UK-registered NGO that has been operating in Vietnam for 26 years. It believes that education is the best path for a child and their family to follow to help them out of poverty, and builds schools, provides scholarships and access to vocational training, and supports organizations working with children with disabilities.
