Vietnamese dish its first to have special day in Japan.
Pho has become the first Vietnamese dish to have a day in its honor in Japan.
Acecook Japan successfully requested Japan’s Anniversary Association recognize April 4 as Pho Day.
April 4 was selected because in Japanese the pronunciation of pho is similar to the pronunciation of the number four in English.
On April 2 in Suita city, Osaka province, a certificate officially establishing Pho Day was issued. Vietnamese Consulate General to Osaka, Mr. Tran Duc Binh, attended the ceremony and said he appreciated Japan having a day honoring Vietnam’s traditional dish.
With its own day, he added, pho will become more widely known among Japanese people and they will learn more about the country’s cuisine in particular and its culture in general.
Instant pho will be introduced in tens of thousands of convenient stores in Japan shortly, made from Vietnamese rice. The soup is being researched to retain the original Vietnamese flavor.
On April 3 the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico also celebrated Pho Day in Mexico.
