Bad fuel hits cars in HCMC

Low quality batch of A95 fuel behind widespread breakdowns in the city.

Numerous cars have broken down in Ho Chi Minh City over the last week and the culprit appears to be A95 fuel.

Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (MBV) and Lexus point out the problem has only been found in Ho Chi Minh City. A representative from MBV said it had analyzed the breakdowns and concluded the fault lies with the fuel.

Mr. Dang Duy Quan, Deputy Director of Petrolimex Zone II, who supplied the A95 fuel, said it has received around 50 complains over the last week. A batch of fuel distributed on January 21 was of inferior quality, he said. Most of the problems were with new cars and the company has sent A95 samples away for testing.

Those who bought the gasoline from Petrolimex and had problems can contact the company for a refund and it will also cover the cost of any repairs.
