Ministry of Science and Technology disposes of more than 1,000 counterfeit products with the Charles & Keith and Pedro brand names.
Inspectors from the Ministry of Science and Technology in cooperation with the Police Department of Crime in Economic Management (PC46) destroyed 1,234 counterfeit products on December 15, such as handbags, wallets, and shoes bearing the Charles & Keith and Pedro brand names and 240 bags bearing the Charles & Keith name. The items were taken from a range of stores and individual vendors in Hanoi.
Mr. Tran Minh Dung, Chief Inspector at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that the number of counterfeit items remains high despite authorities doing their best to address the situation. Retailers and vendors have become more sophisticated in their sale, he added, as they are still in high demand because of their price.
“Protecting intellectual property rights not only protects the brand but also promotes fairness and trade equality,” Mr. Dung told local media.
The Ministry has conducted 54 inspections, uncovering 40 violations in the field of industrial design, patents, trademarks, and brand names. All products have been destroyed and fines of VND1.7 billion ($75,429) imposed.
