Flights cancelled in central region and central highlands as storm rolls in.
Vietnam Airlines has announced the cancellation of many flights arriving at and departing from Da Nang on September 14 due to storms hitting the central region.
Heavy rain from Cyclone No. 3 saw the national flag carrier cancel seven flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, five flights between Hanoi and Da Nang, and two flights between Hai Phong and Da Nang. Four other flights to Buon Ma Thuot in the central highlands and two to Chu Lai were also cancelled, as were international flights from Da Nang to Hangzho in China and Siem Reap in Cambodia.
A representative from Jetstar Pacific said that on the morning of September 14 Buon Ma Thuot was experiencing heavy rain and cloud, which made landing at its airport impossible. Two flights from Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong to Buon Ma Thuot were diverted to the former’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport. All flights departing from Buon Ma Thuot Airport were cancelled.
Passengers on flights diverted to Tan Son Nhat were compensated VND250,000 ($11) to travel by road to the central highlands city. Passengers on canceled flights will either receive refunds or be allocated seats on flights tomorrow.
Vietjet Air, meanwhile, said it canceled two flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Chu Lai.
