European Literature Days 2019 are taking place until May 25 in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, involving 54 activities and bringing quintessential European culture to Vietnam.

An annual activity of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), European Literature Days 2019 are being held in Hanoi for the ninth time, in Ho Chi Minh City for the fourth time, and in Da Nang for the first time.

Ten European countries are participating: the UK, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Belgium, presenting outstanding books for Vietnamese to learn about life and culture in each country and in Europe. Popular publishing houses including Phu Nu (Women), Van Hoc (Literature), Kim Dong, Nha Nam and Fine Arts are also attending.

Along with book presentations are workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, quizzes, prizes and discounts of 20-30 per cent on European books. Book lovers are also able to browse books in conference rooms and exhibitions to read on-site, and can also meet authors, listen to talks and readings, or participate in interactive activities.

Drawings from winners of the “European Characters in Vietnam” contest organized by EUNIC and Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School are also on display at L’Espace and the Goethe-Institut in Hanoi.

An interactive space has been set up to display popular European comic characters and where children can draw their favorite characters such as Lucky Luke, Tin, Smurfs, Spirou, Asterix, and others.

The event also has a space with a playground and book covers and film posters adapted from literary works.

European Literature Days 2019 are taking place at Casa Italia, the Goethe-Institut, L’Espace, Hanoi University, and Bluebirds’nest Café in Hanoi, at the British Council, IDECAF, USSH University, Café Salon Saturday, and on Book Street HCMC in Ho Chi Minh City, and at the Da Nang General Science Library and French Institute in Da Nang.
