Network to help the tourism sector and the building of e-government throughout the city.
Ho Chi Minh City plans to provide free wi-fi throughout the city, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen told a recent meeting with the city’s Department of Tourism.
He announced the plans after a Singaporean company proposed providing free wi-fi in the city and said it would contribute to the building of e-government, on which the city has put priority. “Providing free wi-fi will bring a great many benefits to the city’s tourism sector,” he added.
The wi-fi network will have two levels, with some places having a faster speed.
According to Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet, Director of the city’s Department of Tourism, the free wi-fi will be of benefit to the tourism industry but quality needs to be guaranteed.
Ha Long city, Hue, and Da Nang have already introduced free wi-fi to assist tourists and residents search for information and use online services.
