Corinna Simon to hold solo concert on November 24 at Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi.

by Jessica Nguyen

A special solo piano concert will be performed in Vietnam by German pianist Corinna Simon.

The concert will take place at 7pm on November 24 at the National Academy of Music in Hanoi featuring the best piano pieces from German composers  such as Friedrich Goldmann, Günter Kochan, Hans Werner Henze, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Johannes Paul Thilmann, and Harald Genzmer.

With sponsorship from the German Embassy, Ms. Simon will also hold an advanced training course for students at the National Academy on November 25.

A native of Berlin, Ms. Simon began playing the piano at the age of five, becoming a student of the renowned Julius Stern Institut in Berlin at age 12. From 1978 she studied piano with Ingeborg Wunder at the “Hochschule der Künste” Berlin, and continued her studies with Ludwig Hoffmann at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Munich. Master classes with György Sebök, Maria Curcio, Halina Czerny-Stefanska, Malcolm Frager, and Karlheinz Kämmerling complemented her studies during this time.

Her Berlin Philharmonie debut as a soloist occurred in 1984. Ever since, her career has led her to the major music centers of Europe (with a notable appearance at the Lucerne Festival), and concerts in the US (in New York, Washington, and San Francisco), Asia, and Africa followed.

She has worked with well-known conductors such as Jakov Kreizberg, Walter Weller, and Christóbal Halffter. Cellist Alban Gerhardt, violinist Rainer Kimstadt, and singer Peter Maus count among her renowned chamber music partners.

Her performance is free to the public.
