The Hoi An People’s Committee has started construction of a bridge over the Thu Bon River in Cam Kim and Cam Pho communes costing VND32.5 billion ($1.4 million).

The bridge spans 620 meters in length, is three meters wide, and can bear three-tonne vehicles.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2016, with 60 per cent of funding coming from the Quang Nam provincial budget and 40 per cent from Hoi An’s budget.

Upon completion the bridge will mainly serve people in Cam Kim commune and those in the east of Duy Xuyen district and be a much safer link during the flood season. It is also expected to bolster socio-economic development in the local area.

The Quang Nam Construction Joint Stock Company has been appointed as the investor.
