Cultural activities being held from December 24 to January 2 to mark the new year.

A diverse range of cultural activities are taking place in the ancient town of Hoi An from December 24 to January 2.

With the theme “Welcome New Year 2018”, events at the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site include art shows, food, a Spring Dance Festival, and jazz bands.

There will an exhibition of photos of landscapes in Quang Nam province. The 56 photos selected in the Quang Nam Tourism Contest show the most picturesque landscapes of the province, with the beauty of the sea, islands, rivers, mountains, and people and the two world heritage sites of Hoi An and My Son Sanctuary.

Various activities will take place on New Year’s Eve, including art shows, dances and a dress festival, an award ceremony for the 2nd Quang Nam Tourism Photo Contest 2017, an award ceremony for the Spring Dance Contest, and the naming of the best travel agents in Hoi An.

A ceremony will be held at Cau Pagoda at 9am on January 1 to welcome the first tourists to the ancient town in 2018.

Covering 60 sq km, Hoi An ancient town has many temples, pagodas and old houses and was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999. It was a renowned international trading port in the 17th century, where ships from Japan, China, and Europe docked to exchange wares. Cultural exchanges also took place, influencing the town in ways that remain visible today.

Hoi An welcomed 3.2 million visitors this year, up 21.6 per cent against 2016.
