A cultural program to see in the new year will be held in Hoi An between December 24 and January 1, with a wide range of cultural activities set to take place.

Hoi An Ancient Town and the An Hoi Sculpture Garden will be the venues for a meeting between travel agents and businesses in Hoi An to contribute to local tourism, a music and arts program, and a celebration welcoming the first group of tourists to Hoi An in the new year.

The highlight of the occasion will be a food fair, on December 28, jointly organized by the Quang Nam Tourism Association alongside restaurants in Hoi An and offering an array of local delicacies.

Nguyen Phuc Chu Street and the An Hoi Sculpture Garden will play host to an energetic music gala and dance competition.

A special program at the Garden from 9.30pm on December 31 is expected to make a positive impression on visitors and includes an arts performance, a lottery, and a singing contest. New Year’s Eve will also see the skies above Hoi An light up with a fireworks display.

On January 1, Hoi An will launch an official tour to Tra Que vegetable village, the best in the area, to allow then to discover local farming life as well as the old town.

Located in the central province of Quang Nam, Hoi An was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. Cultural exchanges also took place, influencing the town in ways that remain visible today. Its architecture is a combination of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese, with a little Western as well. It became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999.

Quang Nam welcomed 4 million visitors in the first six months of 2019, including 2.5 million foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 17 per cent and 24 per cent, according to the latest figures from the provincial tourism department.
