Exhibition opens in Hanoi before heading to HCMC.
The International Typographic Exhibition of the New York Type Directors Club (TDC) opened at the Goethe Institut Hanoi on November 19, presenting 294 selections of excellent artworks from all over the world.
The exhibition is organized annually, introducing typography artworks from international artists. This is the sixth TDC exhibition held in Vietnam, known as TDC61, and follows on from the success of last year’s TDC60.
According to Mr. Richard Moore, a branding expert who has advised many major brands in Vietnam, 61 years ago the first TDC exhibition of published design works with an emphasis on typographic excellence was organized. “As a longtime member of the Type Directors Club I am honored to once again open this year’s exhibition in Hanoi,” he said.
The winning communication designs, with an emphasis on fine typography, have already been exhibited in many countries, including Spain, Brazil, the UK, and the US, and are now in Vietnam. “I hope that seeing how typography is used internationally in events like this will encourage and inspire young people in Vietnam, especially those who are passionate for creativity,” Mr. Moore said.
The organizers deliver “a walk of typo, layout and color” to the public, with 294 selections of winning work from TDC’s annual international typeface design competition and its communications design competition. The typography is showcased in a wide range of categories, including web graphics, books, corporate branding, logos, stationery, video, posters, products, and magazines from a range of countries, including the US, Germany, Australia, Canada, China, the UK, France, India, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
“It’s a pleasure to join TDC this year,” said Mr. Christopher Lorvo, Creative Director of Richard Moore Associates in Hanoi. The exhibition is a great opportunity for creative people and lovers of beautiful typefaces to get in touch with the finest typographic works from the US, Europe (especially Germany), and Asia. “For those of us who are art directors and graphic designers, these projects demonstrate that there are no trends we should follow - but there are cultures we can explore,” he added.
The Type Directors Club, headquartered in New York, is an international organization for designers with a love of typography. In Vietnam the exhibition is being organized by Richard Moore Associates and co-organized by the Goethe Institut and FPT Arena in Hanoi and Hoa Sen University in Ho Chi Minh City.
TDC61 in Hanoi is open for public entry from 9am to 7pm until November 22.
In Ho Chi Minh City the exhibition will be held for four days after opening at 9am on December 10 at Hoa Sen University, 8 Nguyen Van Trang.
