Work begins on studying the implementation of high-speed railway project.
The Ministry of Transport is studying the implementation of the North-South express railway line to 2020 and has set a completion time of 2040.
The ministry will begin with a study of sections from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang and from Hanoi to Vinh city.
Relevant transport agencies will hold workshops to receive feedback from experts and the public. The ministry will then submit a proposal to the National Assembly for approval by 2018.
Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong was quoted as saying that there would be difficulties in mobilizing capital, techniques, and human resources. International experts would be invited to study the project.
Earlier this year the government approved the railway development strategy for the 2020-2030 period.
