Higher demand for electricity during ongoing heatwave sees many areas going without electricity at times.
Struggling with temperatures around 40C, many residents of Hanoi have been unable to gain any relief from air conditioners or fans as the electricity supply is cut regularly.
Complaints to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) in Hanoi go unanswered.
Mr. Pham Thanh Luan, a 38-year-old office worker in Tay Ho district said on June 30 and July 1 the power was cut a dozen times for periods of up to two hours. Most of the time when the power is cut there is no advance notice.
A representative of EVN Hanoi said that the city is undergoing peak demand for electricity due to the hot weather, with power cuts being the result of excessive demand.
On June 30, the representative said, power consumption reached 61,658 MWh, 17 per cent higher than the highest consumption recorded in 2014.
