Winds and rain damage houses and flood streets in District 9.
Dark clouds and strong winds appeared in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City at 3pm yesterday afternoon, June 3. Before the rain began to fall the winds blew roofs off houses in Tang Nhon Phu B Ward, Tang Nhon Phu A Ward, and Hiep Phu Ward in District 9, affecting dozens of households and damaging their other property.
Some 30 houses lost their roofs, including 15 in Tang Nhon Phu B Ward, while five other houses were partly damaged.
Many pieces of corrugated iron hit power lines, causing blackouts in some areas in District 9. Only at 8pm was power restored.
Trees fell down on numerous streets, such as Le Van Viet, Dinh Phong Phu, and Duong Dinh Hoi, blocking traffic. On Le Van Viet in Hiep Phu Ward a huge billboard also collapsed, along with its steel frame weighing several tons. Fortunately no one was injured.
