The latest heat wave to hit the north has coincided with the holding of the annual national exams.
Temperatures may again be up around 40C in Hanoi but many parents still braved the heat to wait for their children to finish the first of the national high school graduation and university entrance exams.
Many arrive at the examination venue early in the morning to avoid the scorching sun.
Mr. Pham Van Hoa, a 47-year-old farmer from Hai Duong province, said that after 12 years of hard work his family is looking forward to his daughter doing well in the exams. “But I’m worried about the how the weather might affect her,” he said.
Many students feel tired because of the heat wave. Nguyen Thanh Hoa said she just hopes it becomes a little cooler soon so can focus on the next subjects. “The hot weather makes it difficult to rest,” she said.
Lying on a cot, Mr. Hoang Duc Phat, a 62-year-old from Nghe An province, said he and his son have had to wake up 4.30am to prepare and have breakfast and avoid the heat. “I brought this cot from home so I can rest while I’m waiting for my son.”
Other parents have been buying hammock or cots to follow suit.
The National Center for Hydro - Meteorological Forecasting predicts the heat wave will last another two or three days.
