May events in four cities to feature Australian cuisine and beverages.

The annual Taste of Australia 2019 will kick off on May 9 in Hanoi, one of four cities hosting the program during May, together with Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang.

The event aims to provide an opportunity to share Australia’s high-quality food and wine, culinary excellence and culture, as well as celebrate the deepening bilateral relationship between Australia and Vietnam following the strengthening of ties into a strategic partnership.

It will include community BBQs, a twilight cinema, gala receptions featuring performances by Australian singer Deni Hines, a NOSH Supper Club Dinner prepared by five leading Australian chefs working in Ho Chi Minh City, a public food and wine show, a showcase by Adam Liaw, MasterChef Australia Winner 2010, and the fourth annual Taste of Australia Culinary Competition.

Taste of Australia 2019 will also showcase Australia now ASEAN 2019, the Australian Government’s flagship public diplomacy program. This year, Australia now celebrates the vitality, diversity, and capability of young talent across Southeast Asia, including in Vietnam.

“Taste of Australia showcases the best that Australia has to offer and brings this to the whole of Vietnam,” said Ambassador H.E. Craig Chittick. “It is a partnership between the Australian Government and Australian and Vietnamese producers, distributors, retailers, restaurants, and organizations.”

The third annual Taste of Australia in 2018 was a great success, with 130 partners and sponsors supporting a diverse range of events around the country. This year is expected to see the attendance of some 500 representatives from the Vietnamese Government, foreign embassies, and international and local organizations and businesses. Luke Nguyen continues to be the Taste of Australia’s Ambassador in 2019.

A Vietnamese-Australian chef and restaurateur, Luke is the author of four bestselling and award-winning cookbooks. He was recently inducted into the Sydney Morning Herald’s Food Hall of Fame for his cooking and travel programs. Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam and Luke Nguyen’s Greater Mekong are televised in 150 countries. He was a judge and host of the first series of MasterChef Vietnam, in 2013, and has appeared in Gordon Ramsay’s Great Escape, MasterChef Australia, and Destination Flavour.
