Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved adjustments to the Hanoi capital region (with Hanoi at the center and nine provinces identified as satellite areas that support and supplement development in and around the capital) by 2030 and vision to 2050.

The adjustments provide the basis to develop nearby provinces, highways, special zones, urban areas, infrastructure, and regional management policies.

The Hanoi capital region will include Hanoi and nine nearby provinces: Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang. Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang province will be expanded. The total area of the Hanoi capital region will be 24,314.7 sq km.

The socioeconomic conditions of each province after being connected are expected to develop and create motivation for the development of the region as a whole.

Hanoi and Vinh Phuc and Bac Ninh provinces have the highest urbanization rates and play important roles in industry and education and training.

Hai Duong, Hung Yen, and Ha Nam provinces, in the southeast of the Red River Delta, will be gateways for sea transport and be focused on developing support industries and logistics and commercial centers, healthcare centers, sport centers, and agricultural product processing centers will be built.

Hoa Binh province is an eco-region controlling floods and protecting and supplying water sources. Phu Tho will develop cultural heritage tourism and eco-tourism at the Hung Kings Temple.

Thai Nguyen province will develop healthcare, high-quality healthcare, and tourism at Nui Coc Lake.
