Visitor capacity at Da Nang and Cam Ranh international airport terminals to be enhanced.
The Airport Cooperation of Vietnam (ACV) has submitted to the Ministry of Transport a scheme to expand Da Nang International Airport by a capacity of four million passengers per year. The new airport terminal would have an investment capital of VND3 trillion ($139.5 million), of which construction capital is VND2 trillion ($93 million) and the cost associated with the purchasing of new equipment will reach VND1 trillion ($46.5 million).
According to a senior figure at the ACV, the current capacity of 6 million passengers is insufficient as domestic and foreign tourists to Da Nang number more than 5.8 million, with over 800,000 international visitors in 2014. The terminal is expected to be overloaded in the next two years.
Besides expanding the airport terminal, its guesthouse is set to be improved to serve the APEC conference in 2017.
Cam Ranh International Airport will also see a VND1 trillion ($46.5 million) investment to expand and enhance its capacity by 2 million passengers each year. Its limit is currently 1.5 million.
In a recent meeting, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang reiterated a need to accelerate the progress of these two projects. The ACV will coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAA) to promptly adjust the planning of Da Nang's airport, striving for completion within two years to get ready for the APEC conference in 2017.
