Station opens on schedule despite range of problems during construction.
Ninh Binh train station, the newest and most attractive on the North - South railway line, opened on June 12 after two years of construction.
The station is a part of the CP1A bidding package of MES, RINKAI, TAISEI, and CIENCO Japan, with a total value of over VND1.5 trillion ($69.7 million).
According to Mr. Le Kim Thanh from the Railway Project Management Unit under the Ministry of Transport (MoT), CP1A was one of the main bidding packages for improving safety along the North - South line between northern Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces. Once upgrades to the line are completed train speeds will improve and travel time will be cut, he said.
Ninh Binh station caters to eleven tracks for passengers and transport trains. The main building has two floors, including a waiting room and a service area with a dining room, a tourist information office, and a souvenir area. A pedestrian overpass allows for easy access to the different platforms.
The project faced many difficulties during construction, especially in clearance and changes to the design of certain features, which caused many to believe it wouldn’t be completed on schedule.
Thanks to solutions adopted by MoT, however, the difficulties were overcome and the pace of construction increased dramatically, with the station opening on schedule.
