Visit from March 18 to 21 to be followed by visit by President François Hollande later in the year.
President of the National Assembly of France, Mr. Claude Bartolone, is visiting Vietnam from March 18 to 21.
Mr. Bartolone held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and will also meet with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong. During his time in Ho Chi Minh City he will have talks with the Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong.
The visit helps to promote the relationship between France and Vietnam and develop cooperation in a wide range of areas, such as politics, economics, development assistance, education, culture, and science.
President François Hollande, meanwhile, is expected to pay a visit to Vietnam in the second half of the year.
The French Embassy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education and Training during Mr. Bartolone’s visit on welcoming French volunteers in Vietnam’s education institutions. The MoU aims to bolster French participation in Vietnam’s educational institutions to assist in the study and teaching of the French language.
France is the second-largest EU investor in Vietnam, with some 300 French enterprises, including many in sustainable urban development, transport, and services. A number wish to pour additional investment into Vietnam.
