Party chief calls for harmony during New York meeting.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong called for the promotion of national harmony and solidarity in all circumstances while meeting with overseas Vietnamese in New York on July 9 (local time) as part of his visit to the US.
He said that developing relations with major partners is one of the priorities in the country’s foreign policy.
Regarding relations with the US, the Party leader said that during his visit specific matters were discussed in a bid to further deepen the two countries’ comprehensive partnership and the Joint Vision Statement was also issued.
Both sides showed respect for their respective political systems, laying the foundation for the advancement of bilateral ties in the next stage.
The two countries also candidly exchanged views on issues such as religion and human rights, the Party leader added.
He also spoke of Vietnam’s recent achievements, including improvements in living standards and a rising profile in the region and the world, noting that overseas Vietnamese have made significant contributions to these achievements.
Representatives from the overseas Vietnamese community expressed their delight at the country’s socio-economic and diplomatic achievements.
