$567 million project to meet transport needs along main traffic route in the north.
On July 5 the Ministry of Transport held a breaking ground ceremony for the construction of the Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway in Vietnam’s north.
The expressway runs between Km 108+500 in Bac Giang province and Km 45+100 in Lang Son province and will link up with the project to upgrade the Hanoi to Bac Giang section of National Highway No. 1. With a total length of 63 km, four lanes, and a speed limit of 100km/h, the project has total capital VND12.2 trillion ($567 million) under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) form. The payback time is 21 years and 5 months and the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2017.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai spoke of the economic and social benefit of the expressway at the ceremony. It will be a significant route that boosts socio-economic development, strengthens national security in the region, and eases traffic congestion and accidents. He also highlighted the importance of the BOT form in attracting private capital at a time when State budget funds are limited.
He suggested the Ministry of Transport continue to cooperate with and direct investors and contractors to concentrate human resources, finances and equipment, to ensure construction quality and progress.
Local authorities in Bac Giang and Lang Son are committed to supporting residents affected by site clearance and to creating the conditions for construction progress to stay on schedule.
