Index of industrial production index at a healthy rate in first month of new year.
The index of industrial production (IIP) in January rose 5.9 per cent compared to January 2015, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
High growth industries included electricity production and distribution with 13.2 per cent, manufacturing and processing 8.2 per cent, and mining 4.2 per cent.
Among regions, Quang Nam province posted the highest IIP in the month, at 59 per cent, followed by Thai Nguyen at 20.6 per cent, Hai Phong at 15.7 per cent, and Hanoi at 14.4 per cent.
The inventory index of the manufacturing and processing industry as at January 1, 2016 had increased 9.2 per cent during 2015, with the production of beverages seeing the highest inventory index, up 95.7 per cent.
Many sectors saw low or declining inventories, including the production of vehicles (down 62 per cent), the production of cigarettes (down 59.1 per cent), and the production of chemicals and chemical products (down 8.6 per cent).
The number of workers at industrial companies as at January 1, 2016 increased 5.8 per cent since a year earlier, with the highest increase being found in Thai Nguyen, by 36 per cent, followed by Vinh Phuc 15.7 per cent and Quang Nam 12.8 per cent.
