From next year foreigners will be able to use an international driving license in Vietnam.
Vietnam will soon recognize international driving licenses issued by countries that are signatories to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and Vietnamese citizens will also be allowed to obtain and use an international driving license when travelling or living in these countries. The change will come into effect on January 1.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, Deputy Director of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, it will submit a circular to the Ministry of Transport detailing a process for granting international driving licenses to Vietnamese citizens who need to use them overseas.
The granting of international driving licenses under the Vienna Convention will strengthen Vietnam’s integration into the community of countries already party to the agreement, he said.
Possessing an international driving license helps foreigners living and working abroad, as they do not have to take a separate driving test.
The Convention on Road Traffic, commonly known as the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, is an international treaty designed to facilitate international driving and increase road safety by establishing standard traffic rules among the signatories.
