International Friendship Day (IFD) 2014, with the topic "Leading Entrepreneurs", will be held on November 29 at the Grand Plaza Hotel Hanoi.

Following the success of IFD 2013, this year's event will be organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Liaison (ALOV), the Vietnamese Alumni Association of the UK, the US, France, Switzerland, South Korea, Singapore, Russia, and others, with the theme "Leading Entrepreneurs", offering a special opportunity to connect the above alumni with Vietnamese and international enterprises in an effort to form a knowledgeable and dynamic generation of new entrepreneurs, who will play an important role in Vietnam's development.

The idea for IFD came from that fact that Vietnam has thousands of students studying overseas every year but more than 70 per cent choose to then work in their host country rather than returning home, so IFD was established with the mission of encouraging students to come back to Vietnam and put their skills to work.

The program was first held in 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City. It was a great success, bringing together more than 2,000 alumni who studied overseas with guests from the US, France, Russia, Sweden, Australia, Indonesia, Palestine, and elsewhere.

IFD 2013 welcomed the participation of Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, former Ambassador of Vietnam to the European Union, former Vice Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, and Home President of Tri Vietnam; Professor Tran Van Khe, an academic at the Academy of Europe; and Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and former Secretary of the Central Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh.

IFD 2014 is expected to create a sustainable and efficient network of information, share opportunities between the student community and businesses to help Vietnam overcome "brain drain", and proceed to build high-quality human resources that will meet the demand to develop and improve the country in the future.
