Event declared a success with participants agreeing on common objectives.
On the afternoon of April 1, at the Vietnam National Convention Center, Chairman of the National Assembly Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung solemnly declared the end of Inter-Parliamentary Union-132 (IPU-132).
Attending the closing ceremony were the President of IPU, Mr. Saber Chowdhury; Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam and Chairman of IPU-132, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung; General Secretary of the IPU, Mr. Martin Chungong along with other parliamentary leaders and Congressman.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Hung emphasised that after five days of hard work, the event had been a success.
Specialized committees discussed and adopted resolutions on important issues such as cyber warfare, water management, international law regarding the protection of national sovereignty, human rights and non-interference in internal affairs. Other topics raised included women's rights, protecting the rights of parliamentarians, HIV-AIDS, and eliminating the risk of nuclear war.
Mr. Hung indicated the most important results of the IPU-132 were represented through the Hanoi Declaration. The Hanoi Declaration was ratified on April 1, and Mr. Hung said it reflecting the vision, commitment and actions of all IPU members for sustainable development and the welfare of all people from nations all over the world.
The document expressed the aspirations and commitment of IPU members and parliaments to promote the implementation of sustainable development goals with a vision in place until 2030.
Mr. Hung said IPU-132 generated common goals between parliaments, contributing to the security of peace, strengthening friendships and cooperation between countries and parliaments, and promoting the development of the international community into the future.
