Japanese enterprises are very much interested in boosting their business activities in Vietnam.

A representative of Japanese enterprises said they wish to cooperate in various sectors, in particular high-tech agriculture and transport. The three largest sectors with potential for further cooperation are manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, and trade and services.

During the visit to Vietnam by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, leaders from 36 Vietnamese provinces and 25 major Japanese businesses attended a seminar on investment on January 16.

Opportunities for cooperation between Japan and Vietnam are varied due the level of development of the two countries being complementary, according to Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Trung.

He added that Japan is Vietnam’s second-largest foreign direct investment (FDI) partner and its fourth-largest trade partner. Japanese enterprises have invested in most provinces and sectors in the country and contributed substantially to its economic development.

A representative of the Vietnamese provinces introduced those at the seminar to the positives of Vietnam’s geographical location, its infrastructure, and Vietnam-Japan cooperation, and pledged support for Japanese enterprises in order to attract investment.

The Itochu Company said they now have more information on Vietnamese agriculture via the seminar and Vietnam should apply high technology in agriculture to boost quantity and quality.

A representative from the Tokyo Metro Company said that Vietnam should complete its public transport system to develop its economy.

An assistant to Prime Minister Abe said that Japan wishes to bolster its economic cooperation with Vietnam and will continue to provide support in the time to come. High-tech agriculture is a strength of Japan and is being made available to Vietnam.
