Construction begins on key national project in The Power Master Plan VII approved by the Prime Minister.
On September 7 the Management Unit of the Long Phu 1 Power Project, belonging to the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), and the Power Machinery-PTSC contractor partnership held a ceremony to begin construction of the Long Phu 1 Power Plant Project in the Mekong Delta’s Soc Trang province.
The thermal power plant consists of two generators with a capacity of 1,200MW in Long Duc commune, Long Phu district, and is one of the key national projects within The Power Master Plan VII approved by the Prime Minister. The first generator will be put into commercial operation in 2018 and the second in 2019.
Deputy General Director of PetroVietnam, Mr. Nguyen Hung Dung, said that the group is committed to creating favorable conditions for the management board, the Power Machinery-PTSC contractor partnership, and other local contractors to complete the project. He also asked the contractors to ensure progress, safety, and environmental protection during construction and operations.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade approved the Long Phu Power Center, which includes the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant, in 2007, with a total capacity of 4,400MW. The major power center not only contributes to ensuring national supply but also economic restructuring in Soc Trang province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.
