Plans are afoot to fast-track the development of road infrastructure.
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) will look to implement 50 projects according to the build-operate-transfer (BOT) method of financing with an investment capital of VND160 trillion ($7.44 billion). In quarter two this year, eight projects are expected to be started with investment capital of VND22 trillion ($1.02 billion).
This information was revealed as part of a speech by Mr. Nguyen Danh Huy, Head of Management at the Department of Public and Private Partners, at a meeting to discuss BOT implementation yesterday. Mr Huy said that among the 50 projects, 37 are related to road infrastructure, six were in the aviation sector, three involved waterways, three were in rail and one was a marine project.
The MOT has said that plans for the Dau Giay-Phan Thiet highway works have been sent to the Prime Minister with a view to early deployment. It has also requested to immediately begin work on the Bien Hoa – Phu My project.
At the meeting, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang committed to reviewing all BOT projects in addition to planning further important highways such as Phan Thiet - Nha Trang and Noi Bai - Lao Cai.
