May 22 election of National Assembly and People's Council delegates sees voter turnout of 98.77%.
More than 65.5 million voters, or 98.77 per cent of eligible voters, went to polls to elect delegates to the 14th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure on May 22.
The central province of Thua Thien Hue and the northern province of Yen Bai led the country in voter turnout, with 99.99 per cent.
According to the National Election Council (NEC), 500 out of 870 candidates will be elected as NA delegates, 3,900 will become delegates in the country’s 63 People’s Councils at the city or provincial level, while 25,000 and 295,000 others will be voted in as delegates in People’s Councils at the district and commune levels, respectively.
The results of the NA election will be announced on June 11 by NEC while the results of the People’s Council elections at all levels will be announced on June 1 by local Election Councils.
The election was seen as a major political event in the country and successful in terms of voter turnout and security.
Among the total of 91,476 constituencies nationwide, 11,975 saw voting rates hitting 100 per cent, according to Mr. Nguyen Hanh Phuc, NA Secretary General and Chief of the NEC’s Office.
