Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong to pay official visit to Japan from September 15 to 18.
The Central Commission for External Relations of the Communist Party of Vietnam has confirmed that Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will pay an official visit to Japan from September 15 to 18 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
This will be the first visit by Party General Secretary Trong to Japan, with the intention of deepening the comprehensive strategic relations between the two countries and furthering peace and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
Japan has been Vietnam’s largest overseas development assistance (ODA) donor and its fourth-largest trading partner, after China, South Korea and the US. The two countries have extremely close relations in economics and in politics.
The last visit by a Party General Secretary to Japan was that by Mr. Nong Duc Manh in April 2009. Since Prime Minister Abe chose Vietnam as the destination of his first official foreign visit, relations have become even closer with frequent visits made by leaders of both countries.
At the beginning of July Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Prime Minister Abe held talks within the framework of the Mekong - Japan Summit 2015 on the substantial potential for collaboration between the two countries in various spheres. At the end of July Prime Minister Abe welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh in Tokyo and agreed to increase exchanges and dialogues at various levels to promote mutual trust.
This mutual trust and the tight collaboration between the two countries will be boosted by Party General Secretary Trong’s visit and major achievements in the relationship are expected by both countries in the future.
To mark the visit by Party General Secretary Trong to Japan, the Cover Story of Vietnam Economic Times’ September issue focused on relations between the two countries.
Nine articles feature in the coverage, including statistics, analysis and forecasts on the relationship between the two countries regarding politics, trade, ODA, and FDI in particular sectors.
