Project significant in many respects, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong tells Party Central Committee's 11th Plenum.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong underlined the necessity of building Long Thanh International Airport and spoke of the importance of the project at the national level and its considerable significance for Vietnam’s socio-economic development, in an address to the Party Central Committee’s 11th Plenum on May 7.
The Party Central Committee has requested careful research be conducted to ensure the airport, being built in Dong Nai province to serve Ho Chi Minh City, becomes a major trans-shipment hub in international aviation in the context of fierce competition between various international airports in the Southeast Asia region.
The Committee also requested specific calculations on investment effectiveness and efficiency, the site clearance process, and the construction phases, in order to make the project not only feasible but also consistent with the country’s aviation development and socio-economic development while ensuring national defense and security.
It also sought transparency in the project, consensus within the political system of its importance, and support from society. The project was not well received when previously put before the National Assembly.
